Greetings C-355 Owners,

We just received word from Gerry Douglas that he has received a box of Spinlock cam modules to solve the rope clutch slipping problem for the main halyard.  Please e-mail him at ger...@catalinayachts.com, and he will send you a replacement module.

Also, after various attempts to resolve the refrigerator condensation issue, a solution has been found. The solution has been implemented at the factory for hulls 60 and above. Mr. Douglas will be soon be sending a letter to owners of pre-hull 60 vessels regarding the process for resolving the issue on those boats.

This forum has been a great network for communicating modification ideas, as well as concerns. Thanks so much for your participation!

Here you can see how it dwarfs the main which, in all fairness, is reefed a bit: but literally, the foot of the sail is almost as long as the boat.  In an 8 knot breeze we were going 6.

Sailing is the answer - what was the question?

What other Spinnakers have people put on their boats? I like the ease of the roller furling one that Catalina would like to sell me, but as far as I can tell I can't use it under PHRF?

Owen,
Thanks for your e mail.

For someone who is learning about sailing, what is PHRF ?

I attach a photo of Iona's gennaker, which, when I purchased my 355  was  offered to me as a "bonus", partly
in answer my concerns that  the 355's lacked sufficient sail area/sail capacity in relation to boat weight, when sailing  in light winds (versus a jeanneau)
We had to carefully measure the furling line, which is a continuous loop, before it was spliced.
We run it from the furler,  through  blocks attached to the port side and  the last block is attached by a bungee to the stern rail, so it can be furled from the cockpit when I sail single handed.
We consistently get up to around 4 knots boat speed in moderate winds. I have yet to discover the maximum wind speed under which it can be operated safely, but it has been easy to rig and fun to sail with.

Regards
