Hi All

I just had my 3rd Jabsco water pump die in the 3 years I’ve owned the boat (Hull#81).
We replaced it twice the 1st season. It would cycle on & off constantly, even when no
faucets were open. The 2nd one worked for awhile, & recently I noticed the same thing
with the pump cycling on & off. We needed to turn it off at the panel to sleep at night.
Today it stopped working completely. When I checked the unit under the starboard
cushions just forward of the galley, it was very hot to the touch, but no pumping.
It’s a $300 unit plus labor to replace it. Has anyone else been dealing with this issue?
Does Jabsco still have any responsibility after this much time. 3 Pumps in 3 years seems like
a lot. Wish that they had put in a back up foot pump like I had on the last boat (J/32).

Steve, we have had the same problem with the pump continuing to run when the water was not being used and no leaks in pipes in hull #109. The pump became hot on 2 occasions and shut down in our first season both times. I think there is a heat sensor that shuts the pump down when it gets hot. Although, after it cooled down, were able to get it running again, so we still have the same pump. We prevent further problems by diligently turning the panel switch off when no water is needed. We did install a Whale hand pump on the left side of the sink to have water access after our shut down that I highly recommend.

I'm aware of another Cat 355 owner in our Marina has had the same symptoms. He learned that a chip/sensor in some of these pumps may be faulty and I think our Cat dealer ordered a replacement. So, you may be wise to contact jabsco, or have your dealer do so, and have the model/serial number to give them and you may get some assistance.

I'm considering the same since our boat is 18 mos old and we began having problems in the first few months.

Steve, our boat is on the market so I don't check the forum that often but saw this so I thought I'd let you know that I had the pump problem from new. I also installed the manual hand pump at the sink so I could always get water in the event of an electric pump failure, then I replaced the Jabsco head down, as opposed to head up which is it how it came from the factory. It's noted on the Jabsco manual that it should be either installed horizontally or head down, which makes sense to me given the potential for an air lock to form at the highest point. Below is how it sits now. We sailed for months with it like this and had no problems.
