Quick question. I am at the boat, trying to put the mainsail on. The upper part (the halyard swivel) seems to be locked down about a foot above the boom. It rotates, but will not go up it down.

Is there a locking mechanism of some sort?

If so, how do you release it?

Hi Dean,
That has happened to me before. I remember when I first bought the boat and the broker was taking us out for a short shakedown sail he couldn’t get the halyard swivel unstuck. He used a screwdriver and hammer to free it. A few years ago I took a couple of pics of the swivel when it was pulled all the way down so I could remember which parts move on the shaft. The first pic shows the swivel (black piece) above the hard stop just below it. It is free to move up the shaft. The second pic shows the swivel all the way down. It can get stuck here. The pic reminds me where to place the screwdriver if I need to whack it free. I try to be careful now and not bring the swivel all the way down in the fall so it doesn’t get stuck.

Bill

Dean,
I assume you got the swivel unstuck?  This happened to me Monday for the first time. One added suggestion: when trying to push the swivel up, it may help to move the fuller a bit left or right to line up the slots. Once you feel it click into the upper slot it is time to go for the screwdriver, wooden dowel with hammer, etc. I was able to move mine up with a sharp wack with the heel of my hand.

No, I'm back home and will work on my whacking technique before going back out.

I appreciate all advice!
