Yesterday we had a raft up and 14 seniors had appetizers and drinks aboard our boat.  During which the bilge pump cycled 5 times (not much coming out).  I think the problem is water entering thru stern below the swim ladder (pic attached) as the weight was enough to submerge the thru hull (although intermittently).   Has anyone had such a problem?

On my boat that particular outlet is connected via a hose to the propane locker to vent any gas out. If the hose is loose or fell off then you would definitely get water through there. You’ll have to go down into the starboard aft lazarette and take a look.

Crazy question but you don't happen to have an automatic “electronic”bilge pump installed that cycled?  It's a manual float type?

The other thing I'm thinking is.… 14 seniors.… Drinks…. Lining up to relieve themselves in your bilge! 😳

Did go down into starboard lazarette.  Connection looks good and tight ( of course can't rule out a leak).  Your idea makes most sense.  Here is the pic. I had wondered about leak at the stuffing box but it was dry and pump has not cycled since the raft up while we have been on board, sailing x 2.

I wonder if you could simulate the situation with a hose just flowing water over the thru-hull on the outside of the boat. Perhaps the thru-hull is not sealed up against the hull. Either that or invite a dozen people over for drinks!

Maybe the check-valve was allowing back flow which caused the pump to cycle on and off.

Finally got to it .. connected hose to through hull while I was in starboard aft lazerette -  no water entered and when my removed hose water came back to through hull

Mystery remains -  guess it will be drinks
