5:04PM: A
First Person Account of the 1989 World Series Earthquake Game
Wednesday
October 14,
6:30pm-7:30pm, Main Library Koret Auditorium, 100 Larkin Street @ Grove
What if you were
a baseball fan whose dream was to see his team play in a World Series game?
And after 30 years of waiting, you finally got to that game, only to have it
interrupted by a 7.1 earthquake?
“5:04 p.m.: A
First Hand Account of the 1989 World Series Earthquake Game” is a documentary
by film maker Jon Leonoudakis. On October 17, 1989, Jon attended the World
Series game at Candlestick Park, toting along a VHS camcorder and a still
camera to document a once-in-a-lifetime baseball experience.
20 years
later, Jon revisits the story, featuring his original video footage,
photographs and perspective as one who participated in the entire experience,
from the pre-game excitement in Candlestick’s parking lot, to those fateful
fifteen seconds, and the resumption of Game 3 October 27, 1989. A discussion
follows the film.
