October 17, 2009, marks the twentieth anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake, and the state, city, and SFFD NERT have many activities planned to commemorate this event. We encourage you to participate in the SFFD NERT October Drill (planning in progress, more details to be forwarded, as finalized). Take this opportunity (or any opportunity) to ENHANCE and UPDATE your personal/family plan, home and go kits, and your SKILLS!

Fed Ready Preparedness Tabling Event, Wednesday,
September 9, 10:00 a.m.-2 p.m., Federal Building, 90 7th Street.
Help
NERT help federal employees get "FED Ready" for disaster at this
preparedness fair.
Volunteers are needed to help with tabling and other preparedness events that
day. NERT is partnering with the Office of Civilian Volunteers, Medical
Reserve Corps, Region IX, Health & Human Services Office of Public Health
& Science. If you can assist, please contact the NERT Office at

Classroom instruction with practical exercises in how to set up and respond from a NERT staging area after disaster strikes. The class covers:
- San Francisco Emergency Operation Plan
- Using the Incident Command System (ICS) in the staging area
- Command staff actions
- Setting up the staging area
- Field Operations
- Creating a neighborhood Task Force Action Plan

Learn to set up a NERT staging area, initiate the Incident Command System (ICS), create a tent cover, and set up a portable generator. Practice using the ICS command structure, prioritizing incidents, dispatching teams, and communicating incidents to the Error! Filename not specified.Error! Filename not specified.Emergency District Coordination Center (EDCC) staffed by Auxiliary Communications Service (ACS) radio operators. OCTOBER
Ham Communications Team (HCT) 101, Saturday, October 3, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., SFFD Division of Training (DOT), 2310 Folsom St. @ 19th St. (park along the back wall).
This Ham Communications Team class covers basic Ham rules, regulations, and practices in the morning session.
