About Twitter

Twitter is a unique approach to communication and networking based on the simple concept of status. What are you doing? What are your friends doing—right now? With Twitter, you may answer this question over SMS or the Web and the responses are shared between contacts.

Those social sites are tricky. They make you think they are searching
for people that already have Twitter accounts. Instead they do that
and then in small print ask if you want to spam your whole contact
list, which is really bad when you use gmail which automatically adds
people to your contact list that you email. I wish these sites
(Twitter isn't the only one) would make that more obvious.
