This service is available for licensees in all professions who are in the final 5 months of their current registration period or no more than 4 months past the expiration of their last valid registration period. Your New York State license is good for life, however, you MUST register with us periodically if you wish to practice your profession in New York State. Upon licensure, you received a registration certificate valid for a period of three years (two years for physicians). We will mail you an application to renew your registration to practice approximately four months before your registration expires. It is your responsibility to notify this office of any change of address.
If you are not practicing your profession or using your title in New York, you may place your registration in inactive status free of charge. To do so, you must advise us of your decision to register inactive. You can do this online following the steps below or by answering "no" to question 1 on your paper renewal registration form, signing and returning the form with no fee. If you do not inform us of such a decision, you are subject to the customary registration fee for your profession. In the event that you decide to resume practice after an inactive period, you must reregister your license and meet any post-licensure requirements imposed on your profession.
After renewing online, you will receive your new registration certificate and decals.Please allow two weeks for processing. Print the confirmation page once you havecompleted your online renewal. This confirmation serves as your proof of registration.
Effective January 23, 2023, if your registration certificate expires after this date, the registration certificate will automatically be extended an additional 4 years.
A new certificate with the new expiration date will be sent to you.
Aircraft with an expired registration, airworthiness certification is considered ineffective. Without registration, the aircraft is not authorized for flight. Once registration is restored, the airworthiness certificate not having been surrendered, revoked or terminated would become effective again provided the aircraft is otherwise compliant with maintenance, inspections, and any other requirements for an effective airworthiness. Firms that are filing an initial application must file the application by paper. The initial application fee is $50. Follow the links below for an application for certification of registration and, if applicable, a Section 1-109 verification.
The entity must annually renew its registration by January 31. If a firm has not renewed its registration by January 31, its registration will lapse and the firm must seek leave of Court to file its renewal or will be required to file a new application.
Supreme Court Rule 722 allows an entity who must register under the requirements of Rule 721 to indicate that it has limited liability insurance coverage (in lieu of joint and several liability imposed by Rule 721) by submitting a notarized affidavit or section 1-109 verification by certification. Any affidavit or section 1-109 verification must be submitted along with the application for certificate of registration. The affidavit or section 1-109 verification is optional and it is up to the registering entity to determine if it is appropriate.
It is not required that you send notice; however, if you are still collecting fees and will be keeping the firm open for that purpose only, you will need to seek leave of Court in order to renew your registration for purposes of winding down. Please see above for the requirements of filing a motion with the Court.
Any firm that is renewing its registration and does not have a name change is encouraged to file electronically. However, any firm that does have a change in firm name or is filing an initial application must submit a paper application to the Clerk's office. To expedite the license renewal process, please submit your renewal application and fees online at least 45 days before the date your license expires. If you electronically renew your license and submit your fees online, you do not have to complete a paper application (Form 3235, LCDC License Renewal Application).
Renewal fees are due on or before the expiration date. If you submit a late renewal application, you must pay a penalty fee in addition to the renewal application and licensure fees in accordance with Texas Occupations Code Section 504.203.
To obtain a new license, you must comply with the requirements and procedures for obtaining an initial license, including passing the written examination, with one exception. If you were licensed in Texas, moved to another state, and are currently licensed and have been in practice in the other state for the two years before the date you apply for a renewal, you can renew an expired license without reexamination. OCSA is accepting paper CDS applications for an address change, name change, change of ownership, replacement/duplicate copy of CDS certificate, and expired renewal registration. You will not be allowed to continue with the online renewal until you attest to this requirement. This is a one-time requirement. The CE mandate is met after attesting to the completion of the required continuing education.

OCSA issues fee-exempt registrations to State and Local Government officials, practitioners, researchers, employees or facilities. Certifying details, signature and date must be listed authorizing the CDS is handled at the exempt location only. Federal officials or employees can be issued a CDS permit for a fee at a private place of business or practice.
Attorneys who fail to renew or recertify will be placed in provisional status and will not be permitted to appear or file. After five years from the renewal or recertification deadline, attorneys who have not complied will be removed from our rosters.
To request permission to appear pro hac vice, you must seek a sponsor who is an active member of our bar. The sponsor should e-file a motion in the case requesting permission for you to appear pro hac vice, and attach to the motion your hand-signed declaration as well as a certificate of good standing pursuant to LCvR 83.2(c) or LCrR 44.1(c). A $100 fee will be assessed during filing.
