Hello Google Cast developers!

We’re providing a preview of the next Cast Web Receiver SDK to allow developers to test their apps in advance of the production release.

Changes include:
  • Upgraded the default Shaka player version to 3.2.2 (which in turn fixes a number of previously-reported issues).

  • Added a new API, cast.framework.PlaybackConfig#shakaConfig to allow overriding the Shaka player version and other Shaka options.

  • Added a new API, cast.framework.ui.Controls#hasMediaControlsOverlay() to query whether the media control overlay is rendered on top of their application.

  • Added a new style, cast.framework.ui.ControlsButton.LIKE_HEART, for the Like user action.

  • currentMediaTime value of the cast.framework.events.EventType.BREAK_CLIP_ENDED event data now represents the current time of the latest break clip at the moment the event occurred.

  • Added a method cast.framework.PlayerManager#getRawCurrentTimeSec that returns the media time of the media element.

  • Added cast.framework.NetworkRequestInfo#timeoutInterval to specify the HTTP request timeout for player requests.

  • Fixed bugs in MPL in decoding CEA 608/708 captions for demuxed A/V streams.

  • Fixed the MPL WebVTT timestamp parsing logic to accept more than 2 digits for the hours value.

Developers can test the new Web Receiver SDK prior to release using the preview URL at https://www.gstatic.com/cast/sdk/libs/caf_receiver/preview/cast_receiver_framework.js. This preview period will last 3-5 weeks. For those using Shaka player, we suggest you test streaming content for an extended period of time.
