Anirudh has been associated with Nelson since his directorial debut Kolamaavu Kokila (2018). The film also marked his third collaboration with Rajinikanth following Petta (2019) and Darbar (2020).[1] He described the film's soundtrack as a "blend of mass appeal and emotional depth" with most of the themes and songs were composed with the fans mind, whereas the song "Kaavaalaa" was curated for younger audiences and female listeners, and "Rathamaarey" was composed in order to connect with families across all demographics.[2]
Jailer's soundtrack, consisting of eight songs released on 28 July 2023 through digital platforms.[7] Its physical release, coincided with an event held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai,[8][9] with the presence of the cast and crew, and also featured a live performance of Anirudh and his musical team.[10] The event was later broadcast on Sun TV at 6 August.[11][12]
First post, long time lurker :) I'm looking for song/album recommendations for someone who nowadays listens to her May Jailer discography more than her released songs. Also I am in love with Fordham Road and other guitar-centric ones (disco, money hunny, pawnshop blues, on our way, roller derby, let my hair down, get drunk, yayo/oh say demo) any recommendations?
The only thing I could relate to (might be my biased opinion) is a 1970s album by Sibylle Baier and it's called Colour Green. I'm gonna be over-drawing some conclusions so it may seem silly but although they have different singing styles, they both have an atmosphere/mood of nostalgia/a time long ago, with great story telling imagery, lyrics and a slight melancholy. I think, at first impression, the guitar playing is consistent/nearly similar in all the songs (until I listened to it over and over again) in Colour Green and May Jailers's Sirens and Young Like me. I also love the backstory behind this album; "She was only 16 when her friend Claudine dragged her out of her bedroom and convinced her to take a road trip across the Swiss Alps". The motifs of green had appeared in Sylvia Plath's novel I read recently, The Bell Jar. The song "Colour Green" also talks about New York City which relates both to The Bell Jar and Lana. The song "Tonight" reminds me of "Try tonight", the same with "Eliot" and "Says Elliot" (the latter being because of the title lol). The song "William" is about (I think) falling in love with a bad boy like many of Lana's songs. And the song "Forget about" has that same magical quality of a comforting sound/lyrics in "You Mister". And the ending track of "Give me a smile", ends with a more lana-esque grandeur with an orchestral intro. I saw a comment on YouTube on this track is that "It's like Sylvia plath could sing" and I agree. Tell me what you think?
i feel like most fans would agree that the may jailer era took place in 2005 and 2006, there are three projects from that era, young like me, an EP which was registered in april, 2005, from the end, an EP which was registered in december, 2005, and sirens, an album which i believe was probably compiled in early 2006, there's not a whole lot which is known about the may jailer era, but we do know that this is an actual stage-name that lana used at the time, there's a photo of the actual CD with a hand-written note by lana which she signed as "may jailer"
i would recommend exploring the website for learning more about that particular period of time, i would recommend the early shows section, since it'll give insight into the transition from may jailer to lizzy grant, you could also look back at old threads that may pertain to the may jailer era
i would love to know more about the 2004-2006 period of time of her life/music career as well, it's still pretty mysterious and we still don't know much about it, and i don't believe lana has ever mentioned sirens or any 2005/2006 songs besides pawn shop blues (even though the final version is from 2008) it would be fascinating to know more about some of the sirens tracks, i can't imagine that lana completely forgot about them or just simply wouldn't want to talk about them, but she was only 20/21 when she recorded sirens, so maybe something from when she was so young just doesn't feel relevant at all to her? but the sirens songs are so good i really hope we get more material from her may jailer days, imagine if we got a song from 2004, since she was already playing the guitar when she was 18, which would've been 2003, i wouldn't be surprised if she recorded a lot more material during that time, but i also can't imagine it's likely that people out there have pre-2007 material, it just feels especially elusive and we're lucky to have sirens, young like me, and from the end honestly
personally i would just listen to the songs/projects in order, some of the songs off of young like me and from the end ended up on sirens, so i would just listen to the songs exclusive to those EPs first
I think this type of music would fit her now, and would sound very good with her improved vocals. Most lyrics in these songs aren't bad at all, and certain songs are highlights in her career(to me at least). If she ever does an unreleased compilation, I would hope that she would include some of these songs (though at the same time I want them to be my not so secret, secret
Sirens is an unreleased demo album by Lana Del Rey, written and recorded in 2005 and 2006, under the pseudonym May Jailer. The album leaked on May 31, 2012, after much speculation about its contents by fans months before. Certain songs from the album also appear on the EPs Young like Me and From the End, and the mixtape The Phenomena of Lizzy Grant.
After learning six chords on acoustic guitar when she was 18 years old, Del Rey took up the challenge of writing as many songs with those chords as possible. The album was the result of her experimentation.[1] Almost all of the songs on the album fall into the same range, and many are in the same key. Every track is solely composed of only Del Rey's vocals and acoustic guitar, and often focuses on arpeggiated melodies using fingerpicking. Almost all tracks have Del Rey singing in a higher register with feathery vocals, except for "Birds of a Feather", which has heavy autotune. All songs were recorded in Del Rey's hometown, Lake Placid, New York, at the Jim Cushman Studio.[2] The producer of the album remains uncredited, although the producer may be Del Rey herself. According to his profile on LinkedIn, Alex Frizzell did the audio engineering of the album.[3]
"The songs on Sirens find Lana Del Rey singing tremulously over acoustic guitars, showing plenty of the languid mystique that would later come to define her but also displaying a different sort of fragile Lee Hazlewood narco-haze vibe."
The focus of the record was K, both directly and inferentially. It mentions K further in songs like "Drive By" and "My Momma" and tells the tale of his passing in "Drive By". The song "Next to Me" was written by Del Rey about Bill and is likely the first song she has ever written about him.
Certain songs from Sirens also appear in the EPs Young like Me and From the End, but also, these works include songs that weren't included in the final tracklist of Sirens. It's speculated that these projects were entirely made up of songs recorded during the Sirens sessions, so it's likely that these extra songs were originally intended for Sirens, but didn't make the cut.
