Subject: ATTENTION!!! Opportunity for HIV positive young gay men of color
To: Aiisha Ferguson <
casemanageme...@gmail.com>
Good Morning,
I just wanted to let everyone know that there’s a project here at
CHLA that is working specifically with young gay men of color who are
HIV positive between the ages of 14 and 25. It’s called the B3
Project, It’s an adaptation of Project AIM. AIM is based on the theory
of possible selves, which states that a person’s motivation is
determined by a balance of positive and negative ways in which they
see themselves in the future. Individuals who are able to imagine both
possible positive and negative futures are more likely to work toward
their life goals and achieve future success.
B3 consists of three skill building and educational topics in a group
setting and weekly retention and support groups. Some of our topics
include but are not limited building a positive legacy, Helping
clients identify all of the wonderful qualities that make them unique.
We cover internal & external validation as well as disclosure and
medical adherence. B3 was designed in hopes that the young gay men of
color who are HIV positive have a place to come and discuss and work
through their problems in a group of their peers. Participants of the
project receive incentives as well as B3 swagg materials.
If you know of or have any clients that would benefit from B3, I would
love to build a relationship with you and your agency. I know that so
many of us have youth that test HIV positive and we link them into
care, but they never really get linked to other young people who are
going through and striving in similar situations. Let’s make sure
that our youth have a strong support system and that they know
there’s still life after being diagnosed HIV positive.
Hope to hear from you soon,
Chris Wilson
