Hi guys. I'm the jerk who invited you to another mailing list. :)

I want to get some cognitive science discussions going here. Relevant topics include (but are not limited to):
  • Cogsci-related events (remember that you can invite entire groups to Google Calendar events -- just enter case-...@googlegroups.com in the invite box)
  • Research you're working on or interested in working on
  • Useful/fun resources (e.g. cogsci blogs, Turner's NYT links, journal articles...)
  • Questions about the field or the major
Basically, don't feel scared to post. If you're using Gmail, you can hit the "m" key to mute conversations you're not interested in forever. You can also filter messages from this list into a dedicated label so they don't flood your inbox. If you like, you can even forego email altogether -- just set your subscription to "No Email" and browse the discussions online.

So to start us off: what's the coolest cognitive science book, paper, or blog post you've read so far? For me, it's Chafe's Discourse, Consciousness, and Time. That book first got me into language as a vector for studying human thought and consciousness.

Thanks for inviting me.

I have a book I read a while ago called "The Mind's I," which is a
collection of essays and excerpts arranged by Douglas Hofstadter and
Daniel Dennett. It includes interesting works from Turing, Smullyan,
Nagel, Searle, and others about consciousness, the self, and cognition
in general.

I'm willing to lend it to anyone who wants to read through it. If the
COGS department has some kind of library, I'd be willing to donate it.

Hey Gary,

That book sounds awesome!  Could I borrow it?

Best,

Nicole Lord
