Phonetic keyboards in Indian languages are available in 10 Indian languages including Hindi, Bangla, Tamil, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Odia, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The Indic Phonetic keyboards are in addition to the Indic Traditional INSCRIPT keyboards already available with Windows.

Many languages include more characters than can be typed on a standard computer keyboard. Many languages that use a complex script method of input, such as Arabic, Hebrew, Punjabi, Hindi, etc., require that you type two or more keys in combination to product certain characters. This system is different from the AltGr deadkey because it does not use the AltGr (i.e., the right Alt key) to produce the characters.
To type the combination characters, first press the key for the first letter in the combination; nothing will display on the screen. Next press the second letter required in the combination. When the combination is complete, it will display on the screen. Languages use more key combinations than can be listed here. The user should experiment with the language setup in Windows to see exactly what is required to produce the necessary characters using the key combinations.

MooTyper is an Activity module. A course admin, manager, or teacher creates the activity and prepares it for use by selecting the keyboard layout and lessons to use. It can be set up to present a series of exercises from a lesson or to present one selected exercise from a lesson as a typing exam. Once set up, students can then start to type the current exercise. When a student finishes an exercise his achievement is saved into a database, so the teacher can then view grades.

For this MooTyper release, immediately after you upgrade, you may need to go to one of your MooTyper activities and in it's Administration block, click on, Import lesson / KB layout, so you will get versions of all the new keyboard layouts and lessons. Depending on how you do the upgrade, your old keyboard files may be erased. In that case you will get an error that can be cleared by going to Setup for each MooTyper, and select a keyboard layout to use. Old keyboard versions are not necessarily compatible with the styles.css file included in this version. In some cases, this version includes multiple layouts.
