Ok, here we go, June 21, 9:30am - ???,
up at my property near Mt. St. Helens (if you plug Nymark Drive, Cougar, WA into Google maps it'll get you close, map of our driveway location is attached).
The goal is to forage tree (spruce, western hemlock, fir) tips and hold a brewday. There's no requirement to brew, folks are more than welcome to come up and just hang out. The club will provide lunch for all who come out. Families are welcome to join as well, there's plenty to explore, a creek down the hill (very cold and fast, fun to throw rocks into, but no good for swimming), and the Cedar Flat hiking trail (~1mi loop) just a short drive up the road. Know that our only restroom is a port-o-john, nothing fancy.
I'm going to bring some backup spruce and fir tips, we had an oddly warm spring up there, unfortunately I think the trees will be tipped out before this event. We can also take a jaunt up the road to some higher elevation to do some foraging, if there's interest.
So, for equipment, you'll need to be set up for propane, or over a campfire (steinbier anyone?). I have very limited electricity, we would not be able to run an EBIAB or all-in-one system. Water is from a well, I have not tested it so do not know the mineral content. You're welcome to use it if you want, or bring your own from home.
Camping space is available for tents, trailers, and RVs if anyone is interested. Treat it as dry camping, you need to be fully self-sufficient. If there's enough folks to fill our lot, we have permission from a neighbor to use space in his field.
Directions: Generally, Google maps will get you to our driveway if you use the link up top. But if you need... Go north on I-5 to Woodland, exit 21. Go right (east) on Lewis River Rd., following signs to Cougar. Get to Cougar, keep going (you're now 2/3rds the distance and half of the drive time to our place), shortly after Lewis River Rd./ Hwy 503 becomes Forest Road 90. Keep going. After passing Swift Forest Camp and Pine Creek Info Center, road 90 takes off to the right (south), keep straight onto Forest Road 25. About 1.3 miles past the intersection, you will see Nymark Dr on the left, start slowing down, our driveway is the next turn to the left. If you get to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, you just missed it. Turn into the driveway, and make an _immediate_ left, go down the driveway (don't turn up the driveway on the right), and you're there. From the right turn off the exit ramp in Woodland, it is nearly spot-on to 50 miles to our gate. A map is attached of our driveway.
Please RSVP and let me know how many folks you'll be bringing so we make sure there's enough lunch for everyone!
