I would probably tackle that project as a owner-builder but I am sure that I will need to borrow money to do all (or even enough) of what I want to do. So I need a contractor to keep the bank and inspectors happy.

This home will be on a parcel about an hour S/E of Sacramento, outside the city of Ione. There
are a few straw bale homes in the County so inspectors do have a little experience, and I have worked on a few projects. I am a rather handy guy...

If you are, or know of, an easy going but professional GC who would be willing to talk to me about such a project I would really appreciate the contact.

My plan is to build a free standing steel roof (think horse arena but a bit more complicated) with a Non-load baring S.B. perimeter wall, well inside the overhang.

I have some sketches I have been working on but I know I will be needing the math done by an engineer with a stamp also. So if you know someone who looks like they might fit that bill please pass that on as well!

Thanks!

Mike

Would love to hook-up with you at some point since we are in the next county over (El Dorado County). We too are in need of an engineer. My hubby is a G.C. and I doubt we'll be going to the bank for our barn/workshop project (1,500+ sq. ft. with attached greenhouse) but would still love to compare notes and perhaps share resources/info.

Thanks,
Kelly Hodgkin
P.S. attending CASBA spring conference this weekend and the hands on workshop the first week of June.
