Hi,
Martin Hammer, Architect did a project like this a few years ago you can
call him. On the metal Building part make sure that the metal
building is designed as a house. Metal buildings are allowed greater deflections
than any other building, if you are doing the metal building for cost reasons
then you need to have them change the allowable deflection and re price the
steel, the cost will go up.
Martin’s contact info fro the CASBA website is below. also look on the
CASBA website for contractors in that area.

Subject: [CASBA Members] Needy would be owner-builder looking for a
General Contractor to help with a build in Amador County
I would probably tackle that project as a owner-builder but I am
sure that I will need to borrow money to do all (or even enough) of what I want
to do. So I need a contractor to keep the bank and inspectors happy.
This home will be on a parcel about an hour S/E of Sacramento, outside
the city of Ione. There
are a few straw bale homes in the County so
inspectors do have a little experience, and I have worked on a few projects. I
am a rather handy guy...
If you are, or know of, an easy going but
professional GC who would be willing to talk to me about such a project I would
really appreciate the contact.
My plan is to build a free standing steel
roof (think horse arena but a bit more complicated) with a Non-load baring S.B.
perimeter wall, well inside the overhang.
I have some sketches I have
been working on but I know I will be needing the math done by an engineer with a
stamp also. So if you know someone who looks like they might fit that bill
please pass that on as well!
Thanks!
Mike
