I've heard that New Mangalore Port Trust is not a trust. Is that true?
If yes, can they use the word 'Trust' in its name?

hello Eshanya. you are the student of auditor who handles NMPT files so u must be knowing it better. using word trust for other entites is not prohibited a guess. you can have name is trust even if u are not a trust. just like using word Company for firm. (Sharat & Co, CA firm)

Its true that my firm handles that file. But that file is in partner,s office. And I go there very rarely. So asked.
I dint understand how that example is related to my question. For companies we use the word 'Limited' and that is what distinguishes it from firm.

Dear Eshanya
Name of any entity may contain the word trust. need not only be trust. For Ex. you can have name Eshanya trust to your propritory concern.. but it has to be approved by registarar if u want to register it.

Dear Vishnu
I do not agree to the words 'any entity'.It would be better if you would please provide me with references or case laws to back your words.Real life examples would also do.  (other than NMPT of course )

I found just 1 real life example.i.e., UTI Trustee Co. (P) Ltd
incorporated under Companies Act 1956.
Ok for private companies. Now my question is can public companies also
use such words?Even Listed companies?
