This morning we went to the title insurance company and signed everything. As we mentioned before, in Washington State, you do this days before you close. In other states I think what we did today would be called Settlement, but in other states it comes at the same time as Closing. I'm still not sure what the two days are for. Whatever, we get the keys on Thursday.

side walkwayThe signing went smoothly though. We've had the docs since Saturday, so we'd already gone over them. I had a chance to get a few questions in to my lender before hand, which helped. He was actually planning on coming to the signing, which is above and beyond; but the schedule change around a bunch at the last minute and the commute to Silverdale is something you have to plan around.

By the way, if you need a lender in the Seattle area, I have to recommend Brian Thielicke at Cobalt Mortgage*. He really does go out of his way.

And even though Brian couldn't make it out, Jennie, our agent, did. She also really nails the customer service thing. She picked us up at the ferry, like she's done every time, and drove us out to the meeting in Silverdale. Then she sat with us to make sure it all went ok. It did!

We also went to the house and did a final walk through. We met the Seller** who was super nice and showed us how to check the fuel oil and all stuff like that. The house looked good! We can't wait to move in!

So what was the Escrow Freakout all about?

Following up on Rakka's Escrow Rollercoaster post.

We both freaked out there for awhile, but as you see, we're still on track. Here's what happened. The person at the title company that was handling our deal did leave the company unexpectedly. But Jennie found out on Friday and got on to the manager. She made sure that the ball got picked up and kept everything on schedule.

Jennie was so efficient that, I think, not even everybody at the title company was up to speed. So when Brian, also being super efficient, called them on Monday, whoever he talked to didn't know that the docs were done and out to Jennie already. I guess when everybody is pushing hard, one little ill communication can cause a big panic.***

* Even though Brian is, I think, a Redfin partner lender, and I'm a Redfin employee, this is in no way a paid recommendation. I recommend his as a home buyer because he deserves it. Anyway, I started working with him before the partner lender program started.
**Technically, the Seller is his grandmother, but he's been living there, and did a lot of the upgrades.
*** Yes, I had to make that reference
