Hi all,

We hope you are looking forward to the smart city hackathon next week!

Just as a reminder, we kick off on Thursday 7 Nov at 6pm in Medical Sciences in UCL. I will post some maps shortly so you will know exactly where you need to go. We will be serving a selection of very nice red and white wine and non-alcoholic drinks as part of the more informal networking that will take place after the presentations. This part of the event will run until approximately 8pm.

Andy Hudson-Smith, who is head of CASA, will start things off with a presentation about CASA. For those of you who attended the Smart Cities conference, you may remember a pretty jaw dropping presentation that he gave. Expect the same entertaining overview of CASA technologies. We will then present a set of challenges (very brief 3 min overviews) that you can sign up to and work on during Friday evening and Saturday. However, do not feel you must work on these challenges. You can also suggest your own challenge and form your own teams. We will provide more details on what this entails on Thursday night.

Here is a list so far of the current challenges (see the bottom of the page): http://www.geotalisman.org/hacking-the-smart-city-7-to-9-nov-2013/

With each challenge, you will see a list of skills that are required. By no means do you need to have hard core coding skills. The challenges cover many different skill sets and are meant to be fun! So take a look at this and get back to us if you have any queries.

Note that we have 500 pounds of Amazon vouchers to give away to the best solutions that are presented during Sat afternoon. Again, more details to follow on the Thurs night.

Another idea we have is to find out what you are interested in learning about. We'll have a flip chart on which you can tell us your thoughts. Then we'll look through these, and based on demand, there will be lightning presentations during the rest of the event addressing these topics. We're going to play this one a bit by ear so let's see how that evolves.

See you next week!
