I've been doing photography in one form or another for almost 40
years. I started in high school, long ago and far away. My father was
a photographer, so got the bug from him. A year at art scool in
Minnesota, then 8 years as a photographer, photo insructor ("Tactical
Photo Operations," QC/sensi/densi, AV presentations, photojournalism)
and editor in the US Army. I got a BS in Technical Journalism (ie-
photojournalism) at Oregon State University (photographer & picture
editor at the campus daily), six years as a staff photog at the
Frederick (MD) News-Post,
(pics from around that time- http://www.markcrummett.com/MCphoto/index.htm )
then 5 years as digital photo editor at the Army Times papers in VA.
I got tired of being blamed for all the worlds ills (the paparazzi
killed Princes Di, after all!) I started learning about computer
networking. That didn't really take, so it was back to work, briefly,
at OSU as a staff photographer. We moved back to NC to help with
family stuff. I'm now the manager of a one-hour lab in Cary.

After working for so many years as a newspaper shooter, where every
picture had a reason, I kinda stopped taking pics for myself, where
they didn't have to have a reason! Now I mostly do sculptural art
with technological castoffs,
http://www.markcrummett.com/mcart/index.htm
but take my own pics of that stuff. I've also started taking more artsy pics.

Along the way I've been in a couple of shows and won some minor
awards, just enough to keep me motivated! In fact, one of the "Ghost"
pics
(http://www.markcrummett.com/ghosts/source/what_have_we_wrought.htm)
is currently in a show at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA.
I'm looking forward to CPA as a way to get back into photography and
network with like-minded folks (and learn more about Photoshop, Eric!)
Who's next?

I made my first meeting last month and came to the google group today
looking for a calendar, but I think the next meeting should be the
second Thursday of the month at Jordan Hall. Someone let me know if I
am mistaken.
My background in photography similar to some others I'm sure. I
started shooting in high school and shot for the paper and year book
and a little for the Wake Tech paper after high school. I wanted to
go to Randolph Tech, but the cost of equipment and my parent's opinion
that it wasn't a wise career choice steered me in another direction.
After tech school I photographed some weddings and got to shoot each
day at work for CCBI as a booking technician. My posing suggestions
back in those days were simple. "Hold this number board in front of
your chest and look at the camera." When CCBI went digital in 1990
for mugshots, I changed careers by becoming the mug shot system and
network administrator.
In 1992 I finally sold all of my Olympus SLR equipment to go AF. I
continued to shoot a few weddings and started doing some macro work
for some firends that needed slides to get into shows like Lazy Daze.
I took a short hiatus to return to school and finish my BA and picked
up a digital point and shoot back in 1999. Today, I shoot with a DSLR
mostly for non-profits like debra.org, Caring Community Foundation,
Miracle League and my church. To see what I have shot lately you
can check my blog (http://www.timbrown.us/). I love to play around in
photoshop and feel like I come up with some neat prints, but
recreating a similar effect with another image never seems to work out
for me.
I am excited about the new CPA group and look forward to the meetings
and seeing other photographers and their work.
