Cary Swim Club Swim Team June 24th, 2008 edition
Did the Pasta Pump Up.... PUMP YOU UP for tonight's dual in the pool again the Wellsey team? This is CSC's first home meet of the season! CSC welcomes the WellsleyWave. Last year this team had 201 members. Our meet against this team was cancelled two nights in a row and thus never swum. Several years ago this dual meet came down to the freestyle relay events and age by age the leading team changed back and forth until the final swim when I believe the winner won by only a couple of points! Everyone was on the pool deck cheering each other on. It was a night full of amazing swims, team comraderie and good old fashioned fun.
The weather report looks great for tonight's meet- yeah!!! Keep your fingers crossed. But .....in the event of bad weather please clear the pool deck and shelters quickly- go to your cars or the club house until the weather has passed. Please stay safe. Do not leave the meet.
News you can use.... Always check the web site(www.caryswimclub.org and go to the swim team link) for last minute updates. If you are unfamiliar with swim meets the CSC 2008 Team Handbook is a an excellent resource.
WARM-UPS: Will begin at 4:45pm sharp. Please arrive earlier than this time to get your swimmer number.
Parking: Please remember to park across the street in the church parking lot. Leave our parking lot available for our visiting team as a warm welcome and sign of our outstanding sportsmanship.
Bake sale items. All swim team families are asked to contribute to our bake sale. Please bring items wrapped individually. The items can also be fresh fruit, nuts or other snack items. All items need to be individually wrapped.
Volunteer check in: All parent volunteers please check in at the meet directors table. If it is the first time that you have volunteered for a particular position and you are unsure of what you are supposed to do please read the CSC 2008 team handbook that is on the web site (www.caryswimclub.org) go to the swim team link, ask for instructions when you check in or ask a swim team parent friend. Please be on time to the meet. All officials are asked to attend a pre- meet debriefing at 5:45 pm at the gazebo steps.
Kid pushers: please scout out the swimmers on your list. Find out who is at the meet, what they look like, their swimmer number, and where they are hanging out during the meet. It would probably be a good idea to tell them who you are and that you are the "kid pusher" for their age group. Make sure that you hang your sign up high as you attempt to corral the swimmers and bring them to the clerk of course. The clerk of course is located behind the lifeguard chair that is near the deep end. John and Julia Thomas are our experienced clerks of course-they will dismiss you once you have brought the swimmers to them.
Swimmer check in- Please see Lois Blair, (the number lady) before your warm ups to get your swim team number marked on your arm. DO NOT APPLY SUNSCREEN TO THE AREA ON YOUR ARM THAT WILL HAVE YOUR NUMBER. Typically she is seated at the far end of the pavillion on the home team side.
What events am I in?? The line ups will be posted at the far end of pool (the diving board end), on the wall. We are attempting to post several copies at the pool but have not determined the other prime locations as of yet.
Swim team concessions will be open for business. Items for sale include: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, pizza and Jersey Mike's subs as well as drinks. Please support swim team concessions if you are able.
Swim Team t-shirts have arrived. Elaine Loyack will be distributing them to all swim team members at morning practice, at the meet and so on until all are distributed. She will also be selling team t-shirts to parents. More information to follow.
Swim caps will be available at the meet. Please see Catherine Baron. Latex caps are $3.00; silicone caps are $12.00.
After meet celebration: The usual thing that we Imps do after all of our home meets is to celebrate at Cici's Pizza. Cici's is located in the shopping center across the street and is on the lower level . All are welcome!
Parent Coach Relay
There will be a parent and coach relay at the halfway point of the meet. The Wellsley team has been invited to the dual in the pool as well. Parents please remember to bring a bathing suit. It takes 4 parents to make a relay team. This is a huge team spirit builder so come on out and participate in the relay - it is alot of FUN!
Please lend a hand after the meet...
Most positions have been filled for the meet but there are still quite a few "clean up" positions. Please stay and help clean up the pool after the meet. The more hands to help the quicker the work will get done.
Swim Team Activity this week is WATER FUN! This is an EVENING swim team activity and will follow the evening practices. Jennifer Johns is the coordinator. She is in need of some donated items to make this event a success. Please volunteer and help her if you can.
Future swim team activity: July 10th Wet n' Wild water park. In addition to CSC being there I have heard that a few other local swim teams will be in attendance. This will be a fun day. Car pooling is encouraged- more details soon to be posted. Pricing is available on the swim team bulletin board.
This weekend is Cary City Meet. A separate email will be sent out with specific information. There are volunteer positions that need to be filled. Please look at the posting on the swim team bulletin board at the pool.
Practice times for the 6 and unders for the MORNING practice only will be changed to 10:15 to 11:00 am BEGINNING this Thursday, June 26th. Practice time will remain 10:15-11:00 for morning practices for this group for the remainder of the season.
Remember: warm ups begin at 4:45pm
