Here is a link to a good article on HR 875, the Food Safety
Modernization Act :

It is scary stuff. We discussed it at our April meeting. It confirms
what I said about Monsanto being behind it. The Senate has a similar
bill. We need to get on the backs of our congressmen and demand they
oppose this draconian legislation. It is about profits not food safety
which one person claimed.

could be scary stuff. could be, or not.

Read here before you take action: http://www.ccof.org/foodsafety.php
and here: http://www.ccof.org/pdf/Food_and_Water_Watch_re_HR_875.pdf
and ESPECIALLY here:

(and bookmark www.foodandwaterwatch.org while you're at it)

If you still don't like the bills....

Here's an online petition to the House Committee chairman, against the bill:
http://www.leavemyfoodalone.org/Default.aspx

And other one, for both House and Senate versions of the bill, that would go
to local representatives, I believe:

714

I'm sure there are plenty of others, too.

Interesting article source, Stephen. I think it's odd that people have
apparently decided that this is Bill is being spearheaded by Democrat
idealogy (or by Obama himself), which apparently means taking all our rights
away, create government control of our food systems, and turn us into Russia
(as one genius on the site noted). Give me a break.

This is not a partisan issue. IF the internet hype were true (which is
difficult to decipher, but some of the above links suggest the hype is
supsect), the bill would simply represent another favor to Big Business,
just like all the favors our lobby-pocketed congressmen (Dem and Rep) have
long given to large energy companies, the fishing industry, agribusiness,
insurance companies, and so on. That's just the good old American way.

But for who those who only see in the world in Blue vs. Red, remember that
Big Business is much cozier with the Right than the Left and has received a
lot more favors from Reagan- and Bush-type Reps than they ever will from
Dems, who are generally much friendlier to
local/organic/sustainability/environmental issues. But fact is, congressmen
on both sides of the aisle are guilty of whoring themselves to big industry
time and again.

We need to read more on this but reading that Monsanto et al. are behind this legislation at least makes one suspicious. It looks like legislation that would require a gestapo or a KGB to enforce.  The legislation is online so we can read it.
