to carteret local food network, CLFN
CLFN readers - please forward this note to any and all growers/ farmers that you know of.
While these meetings are not closer than probably two hours to most Carteret farmers, it's a whole lot closer than Washington DC. The Farm Bureau is a strong supporter of both our work at CLFN and other NC local food groups and also of the farmers who grow for all of us.
Time to continue your education and have an opinion!

Dear Coastal-area CFSA farmer members: This is a save-the-date/request to attend one of the upcoming Fresh Produce Safety Farmer Listening Sessions being organized by NC Farm Bureau. The purpose of these listening sessions is to document the specific concerns for small-scale fruit and vegetable producers regarding potential Food and Drug Administration regulation of on-farm produce production. The farmer input will be used by CFSA and NC Fresh Produce Safety Task Force as the basis for formal comments to FDA on what any federal regs should and should not do.

Sessions are scheduled for:

This Friday, March 12, in Brunswick County, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.  at Brunswick County Farm Bureau office in Shallotte (lunch provided)

March 26

Duplin County/Wayne County, timing to be determined

I will provide more specifics on the Duplin/Wayne area event as they become available.

Who should attend? Fruit and vegetable producers. Small producers with production of less than 100 acres are especially welcome. Wholesale growers, retail/farm stand growers, growers with CSAs or who sell at farmers' markets. While we realize this topic may be of interest to non-producers, this meeting is for producers only.

For background on the pending Senate food safety bill, S 510, and to take action to protect local, organic food and farming from one-size-fits-all safety regulations, visit http://www.carolinafarmstewards.org/alert_foodsafety_mar10.shtml .

Thanks

Roland
