Hey, Steph and Jeff......Steph, GREAT post for Jeff! I love ALL your
suggestions and many are what I was wanting to have time to suggest for
him.....Not knowing how much space you have, Jeff....one thing we
suggest to everyone is raised beds here and also Square Foot
Gardening....a classic, I know, but a GOOD classic and the things in it
never really change that much over all these years....we still use them
all the time.....it does not take much space to grow a LOT! We are
loving the raised beds we built for Michael's extreme gardening Mom when
we moved her here with us. At 85 she was still doing active gardening in
Goldsboro but we wanted her to be able to continue so the raised beds we
did are "sitting height" with boards around the top for actually being
able to SIT and garden.....she loved them and now that they are OURS and
WE are getting older WE are appreciating that benefit and the ability to
have things on the bench area so we don't have to bend over all the time
either.....grateful for having done that years ago for her, WE love em
now.....Another thing to suggest quickly here is the magazine Carolina
Gardener which is a magazine produced in Greensboro and is written just
for North and South Carolina gardeners....always lots of great things on
varieties of veggies and also other plants which grow well here....and
they are the ones that report often on the varieties being produced of
NORTHERN favorites to be grown in this area.....used to get TONS of
magazines and books, have a LIBRARY full if anyone wants to borrow, but
now all we get are Carolina Gardener and Mother Earth News and keep my
old Rodale books and our Square Foot Gardening right handy.....getting
back to basics, folks!
Have a great New Year's Eve....got to get back to work! Joyce
