God expects us to obey “THE LAW OF CHRIST”! Christ has fulfilled the Old Covenant law, "...therefore if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed." However, becoming a Christian does not free anyone from obedience to the “Law of Christ”. Galatians 6:2 says, "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." SO, WHAT IS THE LAW OF CHRIST? Well, it is not a list of Commandments like 1,2,3, or 10….
The New Commandment given by Christ is "love one another". The First, and Greatest Commandment is…“'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind" Matthew 22:37 (NKJV). The Second greatest commandment is "love thy neighbor as thyself". These commandments are at the very core of Christian ethics, they are the foundation for all laws! The "Law of Christ" is filled with grace instead of condemnation. It does not eliminate judgement but it is just. "He hath appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness” (Acts 17:31). The "Law of Christ" is a new principle for life, a new standard for living; a principle and standard that emancipates us from the bondage (slavery) to sin. I believe that Christ Himself is a complete example of the "Law of Christ" for us to follow. It is not written on stone tablets, He has fleshed it out for us. The "Law of Christ" is superior to all the law that has ever been...it is absolute holiness.
He said, "I am the Light I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12) . Christ Himself is the very essence of light that dispells the darkness. John tells us that "... the Light from heaven came into the world, but they loved the darkness more than the Light, for their deeds were evil. They hated the heavenly Light because they wanted to sin in the darkness. They stayed away from that Light for fear their sins would be exposed and they would be punished. But those doing right come gladly to the Light to let everyone see that they are doing what God wants them to." -- John 3:18-21 John the beloved loved the light and he said, "...if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin" (1 John 1:7). Therefore, let us do as Isaiah said, "...come, let us walk In the light of the LORD" (Isaiah 2:5). "...and so fulfill the law of Christ."
