I'm interested in the project and I wanted to find out more about it but the link to the pdf returns the following error:

The page you were looking for doesn't exist.

You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved.

Hi, RK - here it is. Sorry.

btw it was a prototype only and hasn't been developed for some years.

Awww... It seems like a nice project though. Thanks. Got the pdf. Btw, is there any code I can build on top of? I would start from scratch if I have to but I think it'd be easier to build on top of the existing code. Or at least have specs to follow :)

i'm a little embarrassed to say that much of the code is still in the source tree:

https://github.com/jywarren/cartagen/blob/master/app/controllers/messages_controller.rb
https://github.com/jywarren/cartagen/blob/master/app/models/message.rb
https://github.com/jywarren/cartagen/blob/master/db/migrate/20090309220337_create_messages.rb

also you can try looking at the WHOOZ project:

http://whooz.org/

it that's interesting i can dig around for the code and open source it. but it's probably similar to the Cartagen SMS code, written around the same time.

That would be awesome :) I wanted to build a reporting tool for our uni ( University of the Philippines ). A smartphone app would be ideal as it has GPS and cameras but not a lot of people have smartphones here. My research is also on geoparsing so I really found CartagenSMS interesting. The map with the grids reminded me of XKCD's geohashes too.

If I may ask, why was it discontinued btw? Or was it just intended to be a prototype?
