Singing Lessons

A number of our members have asked our new Musical Director about individual singing lessons.  Penny teaches from her home in Mitcham (and can also offer Zoom lessons if this is preferred). 

Lesson slots are either half an hour at £20 or an hour at £40, with flexible times to suit all working patterns. If this is something you would be interested in, you can contact her on homer...@gmail.com or 07903 851329.

Christina Smith who works for Age UK is currently helping a lady in a South Croydon nursing home who is a singer who entertains other residents. Please try and remember to bring all your music including the 3 additions to the programme : Salve Regina, O Salutaris and Ave Maria. We only have a few left and hope we won’t need to print any more. 

We have black Choral Society folders which we use at concerts so you could use this to store your music. If you don’t have one please ask Ros or Jan.

The committee are very sorry to announce that Joe will be leaving us at the end of March. He has been a brilliant accompanist and will be very much missed.

Joe will be giving a recital at St Michael’s Church, Croydon on Saturday 18 March at 1pm (see forthcoming events for details)

Joe leaving

You will know that Joe Howson has submitted his resignation as our accompanist.  He has been an outstanding contributor to the choir through some difficult times and we have appreciated his musical ability, his reliability and his humour.  He will surely be a hard act to follow!   We will be making a collection tomorrow to say thank you and to  support him in his next venture so please bring some cash to rehearsal. An envelope for each voice part will be provided for contributions.

‘As some of you may have seen, the BBC has decided to gut its musical offering, and among the poor choices it has made is the one to completely close the BBC Singers. The BBC is promising to redistribute resources elsewhere, a very nebulous statement that does not fill me with any hope that they will actually do anything useful for singing! There is a petition going around at the moment’ - please consider signing by following the link below:

TICKET SALES

We would encourage all members to sell at least 2 tickets for the concert to ensure we have a good audience. Jan will be selling tickets on Monday, cash and card payments accepted.

Please remember to sign the register if you are planning to sing in the concert. If you are not going to be at rehearsal on Monday please email me by Tuesday if you want to sing in the concert and have not already signed the register.

There will be a rehearsal as usual on Monday 17 April (Carshalton Methodist Hall) and on Thursday 20 April at 8pm (All Saints Church) and on Saturday 22 April 2pm (All Saints Church).

Joe’s leaving collection

We raised £500 as a leaving gift for Joe. Many thanks to all of you for your generosity and it was lovely to sing him a farewell song last Monday! He will be missed by all of us.
