Lots of stuff here which might be of interest to CCS people.  I sang in A40 choir's performance of Messiah last year which raised funds for the Grenfell people.

Hope you're well!  All the best, Juliet

Importance: High

Dear All,

Just over a month ago we had Requiem 4 Grenfell ’20 and sang the original version of Faure’s Pavane and his evergreen Requiem to bring the total raised for Grenfell survivors to over £7K – thank you again to all participants and generous supporters.

The church was booked, a while ago now, for the next Messiah 4 Charity on Sunday 11th October, but with the current Coronavirus situation I haven’t updated the A40 Choir website page and added it to the Ticketsource website as none of us knows how this is all going to pan out and over what timescale.  I’ll keep you updated, but in the meantime, please pencil-in this date into your diary if you haven’t already done so.

I’ve had a November booking for my reduced orchestration of Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius postponed until next year because the choir doesn’t know if they’ll be able to start up again in September.

On a more positive note, after 35 years of face to face teaching, I’ve started giving piano lessons via Skype which works incredibly well, and so I hope you don’t mind me inviting any of you, or other members of choirs in which you sing, to use this time when you’re unable to do other hobbies away from your home to learn the piano with me in the comfort of your home via Skype - either as a complete beginner or picking up from where you left off if you haven’t played for a while.  I have taught beginners of 60+, so it’s never too late to start, and Artur Rubenstein was still giving piano recitals well into his 90’s!

If you haven’t used Skype before, let me reassure you it’s really easy.  Downloaded from www.skype.com and used as your email to my email, via Wi-Fi or other direct connection, Skype is absolutely free.

I can also teach theory, aural for ABRSM exams and keyboard harmony via Skype.

Also, I’d like to offer the opportunity to those who don’t read music to use this time to learn.

If you do already know how to read music – great – then please pass this on to as many other choral / community choir singers as possible in the hope it’ll reach someone who can’t read music and would like to benefit from learning.  Thank you!

If you don’t read music, it may sound complex, but trust me, it really is so easy!  Especially as I’ll break learning how do it into small bite-size pieces.  Being able to read music would really take the slog out of learning new stuff and so make your singing even more enjoyable.

To save you asking, please see below for the lessons options and costs.

Hoping you are keeping well, and looking forward to perhaps hearing from you,

Bw,  David.
