Hey all. Quick update.....we've of course been closely following and lobbying on the climate change bill aka Waxman-Markey aka the American Clean Energy and Security Act aka H.R. 2454, and after a steady month of watering down, a few minutes ago it barely garnered a majority of the House, 219-212 (it takes 218 to pass). From what I've seen, 7 Republicans voted in favor and 44 Dems voted against. It will be interesting to see the final roll call.

Now the bill moves to the Senate where it is sure to be further mangled and possibly not survive a filibuster. As it currently stands, the climate team maintains our support although we have major problems with the legislation. We still stand for 100% permit auctions as soon as possible, and the bill that just passed is a far cry from that. We are worried the middle class is gonna get screwed under the current scenario and that must be avoided for reasons of both justice and politics. To that end, the climate team will be continuing our push in the Senate over the coming month and beyond.

If you would like to be part of the climate change team, please e-mail me and/or Chris.

Onwards,
Jeremy
