I've just installed v. 2.2. I'm wanting to turn this two-column blog
into a one-column static page website. Any suggestions as to how to
do this. Thanks much in advance!

This shouldn't be that hard. Basically set what page you want to be
viewed as the front page and then build a custom page theme that
doesn't call the sidebar. You will also have to adjust your css to
fomat everything correctly.
