The building is up and the finishing touches are going in! Tenants have already begun moving in and making themselves at home. Our office had a chance to tour the building and we were very impressed! The one- and two-bedroom units feature large windows with stunning views (we saw the Green Tree Water Tower!), large closets and bathrooms, and full kitchens. The community room has two stories of windows, with a beautiful subtle artistic design. The salon is complete with a sitting area, shampoo sink, and stylist cart!
We were also very impressed with the planning that went into making sure tenants feel like a sense of community. Great job to The Community Builders on a job well done! This gorgeous building adds to the neighborhood.
Twice a year, the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police sponsors an opportunity for members of the community to become closely acquainted with the roles and responsibilities of the Police Bureau. The Pittsburgh Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) brings the police and the community close together in a setting that offers a sample of police training to each participant.
Participants receive three hours of training one evening each week for 15 weeks in many of the varied functions of law enforcement. They experience some of the highlights of police training and are exposed to the operations of the police bureau. Participants are taught the basics of criminal law, search and seizure, patrol tactics, firearms and many other subjects. They learn about the processing of a crime scene, how police canines are used, and are exposed to many of the specialty police units. CPA participants meet and talk with many of the street officers as well as the command staff and training staff that serves them. All this takes place in a safe and entertaining training environment.
Instructors are law enforcement professionals who teach both veteran and recruit police officers. Citizens leave this training with a greater understanding of the police mission and with an increased ability to see how the police serve the community.
On July 31, the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) launches its new awareness initiative, 3 Rivers Proud. The initiative includes a micro website (
www.3riversproud.com), radio and print ads, Facebook, Google, and other digital messages and ads, a brochure, posters on and in Port Authority buses and light rail vehicles and billboards throughout the service territory.
The purpose of this project is to educate the public about the importance of the work done by ALCOSAN and its municipal partners to protect our rivers and streams, and enlist citizens in taking action to implement the Clean Water Plan.
Our research tells us people feel that the rivers define our region. People have great pride in where they line and a desire to make a positive impact. They feel a responsibility for making our region a better place to line for future generations. The research also shows that the public needs more information in order to support rate increases and other impacts to their lives as our mutual work goes forward.
The micro website is the hub of the campaign. It features our campaign theme illustrated with photos of some of our employees, videos, animations, a blog, explanation of the Clean Water Plan, links to our Clean Water Assistance Fund and much more. We will continuously update and add content to the website.
One website highlight is the events page, which provides details of community and ALCOSAN events. We want to help publicize your community's events on this site. To do that we will need:
-Event name
-Event date
-Event time
-Event location
-Website for support information (if applicable)
ALCOSAN hopes this initiative and information will keep the public informed and supportive of efforts for clean water.
The Friends of Phillips Park is a group that our office created with assistance and support from the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. Phillips Park is slated to receive grant funding, and in order to make needed park improvements, a group of neighbors and park users was assembled. The group has worked to gather historical information and then pass out surveys to name trails so that signage and lighting improvements can be made.
The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy will also be working to integrate tenants of the Parks Rx program to Phillips. This program is designed to encourage kids and adults to get outside more in order to improve their overall health. You can find all sorts of information (even activity sheets for kids to bring to specific parks) at
https://www.pittsburghparks.org/rx and you can find the Friends of Phillips Park group online here:
