It's great hear that the Development and Research Institute (CARDI)
and the Inter -American Institute on Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA)
on the Establishment of a Viable and Sustainable Livestock Industry in
Carriacou.
To make this possible incentives must be put in place as to make land
available for this to be workable.
The government must address the problem of acacia trees growing wild
in what use to be areas where farming was a way of life.
There are many land owner living abroad, the responsibility of keeping
their land clear from the over growth of acacia, on their land.
A time must be set for landowners to clear up their land, which will
make many areas more pleasant to the eye.
If that is not done it is up to the government to clear those land and
bill the landowners
If that bill is not paid after a given date than farmers could use the
land for a period of time for planting and for livestock.
The need is to educate people to replace acacia with stools of
bananas, fruit trees and such likes.
These lands can be rented out to people that wish to farm, be it in
Agriculture or livestock farming.
I could write a bit more on how this will work but before I do so it
would be nice to hear other views on the matter.

The way this can work is by partnership, the landowner can clear the
land and create allotments and rent it out as such.
It can also be in partnership with the relevant ministry or with
individuals where by they clear the land with the right to use the
land for a period of time.
It will be beneficial to both short turn crop will be beneficial to
the farmer and the long term crop benefit the landowner in the long
run.
I sure others will have better ideas on how this can work, it would be
nice them.
Please join this group, weather you live in the islands, abroad or in
government will love your views constructive criticism will improve
all our thinking.
You may even have fresh ideas it would be also nice to hear them.
