This week in class, we will be studying the events associated with America's founding: its role as a British colony, the events leading up to the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, the failed Articles of Confederation, and the eventual development of the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Take a moment to imagine what would have happened if the American Revolution had never taken place. Suppose Parliament accepted the American colonists' cries of "No Taxation Without Representation!" Think about the colonists having no reason to meet in Philadelphia as either the first or second Continental Congresses or needing to issue the Declaration of Independence.
How different do you think the United States of America in 2012 would be had the American Revolution never happened?
