Hey team!

Hope all is well, seems things are opening up a bit. I am looking into getting a permit for Swansea Public School baseball diamond.

I just want to gauge interest before I go ahead. Who would be interested in playing this year?

Also, who has the equipment?

CARPERS,

Due to overwhelming demand we are set to open up our 2021 season marking the 30 or 40 somethingth straight year that CARP baseball will be played. To that we owe deep gratitude to our founding fathers who occupy a special place up on Mount Rushmore. Though they may not play anymore it is upon their great shoulders that we whack dingers, run from right field to back up our wide throws to 1st base, and enjoy our drinks pre, during, and post game, much to the chagrin of some stalwarts.

As with anything in our league, the only constant is change. Whether it is personnel, location, or leadership, it is something we have become accustomed to and in order to survive we must continue to adapt.

This year that means changing fields, and also, at times, changing our holy day from Thursday to Friday. 

Please see below for the schedule going forward at the new location of Swansea Junior Public School's Northwest Diamond. The good news is that it actually has an infield and adequate local parking (near the tennis courts/skating rink).

For logistics, Benji has the equipment. Please coordinate with him if he can make it to the first game, also get in touch with Jackie baby, not sure if he was on this email list.

We don't actually have the permit for this coming Thursday due to issues with the permit office but going forward it will be official. 

Though I won't be there in person I will be there in spirit. Don't let the sun go down on CARP baseball. I've done what I can, the rest is up to you, for everything else, I'll tell you what I told John when he passed these duties on to me...'can't Nelson do it?'

Please reply to all in these emails so everyone knows what is going on and invite your friends...just nobody too handsy.

A new generation to keep the ball flying (not rolling cause its not bowling). Hope your efforts pay off. I'm making the big trek from North Bay today and should be at the field for gametime, rain or shine. Look forward to seeing how everyone's long off-season training regimen has paid off.

Rumours are that old favourites such as Jamie 'straight from the streets' Hallman, Cressman (what's his first name), The Douglas Fir, Baby Benji I-Cloud,  Johnny red beard, Big Daddy Desousa, Jacky Baby, Randle the Handle, COPD from the CBD Lewis, and Big Bowler Mo will be there with at least one representative from the Arnott clan ( I know which one I'm cheering for :) ) 

Let's play ball and drink beer, afterparty at the bar.

Which of you non-baseball players is interested in getting together for some beers. I can host or we can go to one of our old establishments for old times sakes. (Loon’s Shakeys?)

Maybe even meet at western tech, where we can all leave an Amber Turd on the field in protest of them removing the baseball diamond.

Since we won’t be playing baseball, we can do an honorary tossing of the gloves, trading of the Matt, and arguing about the hypothetical teams in honour of the fallen Carp tradition.

I am going to tentatively say solstice, in lieu of our doubleheader would be a good date.

Does anyone have up to date contact info for Johnny Beard, John, Dougie, Bird, Henry, Jack, Nick, Chris the first basement who disappeared, and anyone else who has received a carp vote in their life? 

(I’ve had a few bounce back, and lost the others)

We will be toasting inner city smitty at 7:00pm sharp so clear your schedules.

Update from up North, I have joined a windmill fastpitch league. My stats so far are .500 batting average (one strikeout - 3 swing and misses, one foul tip) and one bunt single. Defensively I am doing much better, the coach has slid me into third base, there seems to be a stubborn guy at short...but hey, I got rid of Rolf soon after joining Carp.

Looking forward to seeing everyone in a couple of weeks, all signs point to me being there.

Looking ahead, I have received authority from my wife to host a bunch of CARP alumni up here for a CARP celebration of life.

I am looking at the Aug 20 weekend, so far I received interest from Randy, Jeff, Jamie H, Nelson, and Derek. Douggie said if nothing is on TV he would come and Johnny A is playing hard to get but Jeff will need a ride. Depending on numbers, I may be able to house everyone, but everyone is welcome and we can figure that out later. There are also a lot of BnBs around if that is preferred. I live on a golf course so there would be golfing, among other activities.

Let me know how your summers are looking and if you are interested. You too Dennis. 

This will not be a kid friendly weekend, but for Ben and Jack I can make an exception. ;)

What a great evening, thanks to those that could make it, especially to Derek for organizing and John for remembering to pay his bill. Loons appeared to be under new management and Randy and John's pictures were taken down from the wall and our lovely waitress Vicky kept us happy all night. It was a great reminder of how lucky we were to have that every week. For those of you that still get out with a team on a weekly basis for sports/drinks/poker/whatever, treasure every week, they don't go on forever.

Also, I'll take this opportunity to plug my August 20 weekend escape to Callendar ON. Our confirmed guestlist is climbing. So far we have Johnny A, Jamie, H, Dennis M, Derek D, Randy F, Micheal L confirmations, and 90% chance of Jeff A, Doug G, Nelson D. 

Michael Lewis has confirmed he will bring several pounds of smoked meat and a drug for whatever your tastes are. I think I'll grab a naloxone kit just in case.

All are welcome, once we have a better idea of numbers Ill see if there is room for everyone at my place or if we have to think about other options.

I’m having a park party on aug 13th.  Be setting up a volleyball net, ping pong table, some corn holing and using the wading pool if it’s hot enough.   3:00ish

(And lots of kid friendly stuff to do. 

later on in the evening, we’ll be setting up the outdoor movie screen, so if you miss the afternoon you can catch a flick at dusk.

Good afternoon team!

Aug 20th is about a month away and tickets are selling fast. Please let me know if you are coming so I can do some planning. I have a few confirmed and a lot of maybies. So far the forecast is looking great, the golf course is in top form, wood pile is stocked, and the jays should be well on their way to a wild card spot after some blockbuster trade deadline deals.

Jeff/Jamie I know you are having some scheduling issues with kids/spouses work schedules. Do your best to see if you can confirm attendance but I understand.

Dennis, did you say you got off work that weekend? Jamie needs a driving partner.

Derek/Michael, I think Randy will drive up and you can hop in with him.

Nelson, I think Laura messaged me and said she wanted you to come and have a good time and that she has no problems taking the baby for the weekend. May have been a different Laura, not sure. Kait will be down in Toronto with 3 of mine, they can hang out.

Let's pack this fun in before the 7th wave takes over!
