Hello Carps,
I’ve been tossing the ball and hitting BP with a friend since the weather started blipping into the teens in April. Western Tech has been near desolate until the last few weeks, but nothing close to density.
My friend, slightly more cautious then I, didn’t want to share bats and wore a batting glove while throwing. A minor concession.
What plucky rebels we are! Shaking our gloves fists at the non-existent bylaw patrol... Or so we thought until I met up with a friend of mine for some catch last week. This fellow in his 60’s notified me that he had been practicing with his masters softball team for the past 5 weeks! Organized ball of a half-dozen or more 55+ players since early May!
If the 55+ crowd is running scrimmages I’m pretty sure people are starting to smell what’s in the air, and it’s not BBQ’d bat served rare.
It seems to be the case as yesterday a bunch of players from different teams/leagues whipped up a practice on a day’s notice and met up at Macgregor park for 3.5 glorious hours of hitting with wooden bats, shagging fly balls, and running around in the sun was had.
Macgregor has full netting installed in left field to catch home runs, perfectly groomed grass, and OPEN PUBLIC WASHROOMS. Certainly the latter signifies that perceived public risk has fallen off.
Just wanted to push that opinion into the conversation.
Hope to see your all soon!
