About Kathryn:
Kathryn Parham Brickey grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina learning fiddle tunes from the greats of the region including Roger Howell, Arvil Freeman, and Bobby Hicks. She attended East Tennessee State University where she fiddled and sang in the Bluegrass, Old Time, and Country Music Program. She played venues such as the Carter Family Fold, Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, and the Down Home in Johnson City (TN).
Kathryn is the 2012 recipient of the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Award. Master fiddler Roger Howell is quoted, saying, “Kathryn represents what we’re in this for. She is the future. She has the grace, the style, the obvious talent, and she understands where it comes from.”
About Roger:
Known today as a Master Fiddler, Roger performs regularly with his many musical friends in the Western NC area and is counted among the region's finest traditional performers. He can be found performing locally at Zuma Coffee in Marshall weekly with his legendary fiddling friend Bobby Hicks, and elsewhere with artists like Arvil Freeman, David Holt, and Laura Boosinger, among many others. Roger is carrying on the tradition of Bascom Lamar Lunsford in helping preserve the old music that's been handed down throughout the generations.
