| Strategic Partnership Formed: Project K.I.D. and Riverview Hospital Project K.I.D. has formed a strategic partnership with Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, Indiana in what is becoming a model for other communities. Taking ownership of a Project K.I.D. PlayCare Kit, Riverview Hospital has agreed to be the primary emergency dependent care site for Hamilton County. During an emergency, the Project K.I.D.-Riverview partnership will provide dependent care for hospital staff as well as for the children of other first responders in the county. In a disaster, loved ones become more important than anything else. After Hurricane Katrina, many policemen, firemen, medics, and first responders could not report for work because they were attending to the needs of their own families. Project K.I.D.'s PlayCare, proven after Katrina to provide a safe place for children to recuperate from disaster stress, is now being made available to offer the same care for children of first responders. On May 17 the co-founders of Project K.I.D., Lenore Ealy and Paige Ellison-Smith, provided training for prospective Hamilton County disaster child care volunteers. The disaster preparedness training acquainted volunteers with the unique needs of children; prepared them to provide safe care for children, including the setup and use of a Project K.I.D PlayCare Kit; and helped them understand how to work with emergency personnel to benefit the community. During a disaster, these trained volunteers will be called up by the hospital to help provide dependent care . |
Teen Appointed to Youth Advisory Board
Project K.I.D. has appointed Jacob Baldwin as Chairman of the Youth Advisory board. Baldwin began his involvement with Project K.I.D. in July, 2007 when he helped with the Operation Golden Phoenix exercise in Pasadena. Soon after, he decided to help prepare Hamilton County, where he lives in Indiana, for a disaster by positioning a PlayCare Kit. He purchased a PlayCare kit with donations from local businesses and a United Way, Youth as Resources grant. He is passionate about Project K.I.D. and hopes to be involved with it for many years. Baldwin credits any successes he has had to God and mentorship from Dr. Ealy and his parents. Jacob is currently in search of additional board members. If you know a youth who is committed to helping kids in disaster, encourage them to contact Jacob Baldwin at jabal...@gmail.com. |
Photo Shoot Made Special by Visitors On March 29, 2008 there was a photo shoot at Christ Community Church, hosted by Project K.I.D. A full PlayCare kit was set up, and over forty people participated in the photo shoot. Hundreds of pictures were taken of kids, adults, and the kit. The pictures taken are invaluable to Project K.I.D. and are being used in training manuals, promotions, and many other documents. The highlight of the event occurred when Captain John Moriarty (right), Captain of the Carmel Fire Department, and his team of firemen participated in the photo shoot. At the end of their 'red carpet' experience the fireman distributed plastic hats for all the children and let them see the fire trucks. |
