Hello,
My great great grandfather Jesse Rye and his wife
Sarah and early family came to Carlton around 1835 having been evicted from work
in Kent and took up residence in Carlton working for the Ramsdens. I
believe Jesse was farm bailiff until his retirement, after which his son David
took over. Sarah died in 1870 and was buried in St. John's churchyard
where her grave stone is still in good condition very near the small side gate
to the church. Jesse died in 1885, but I can't understand why he
doesn't share that grave as he was still living there. Will there be
burial records at the church?
I attach a couple of photos, on purports to be the
home of Jesse and the other is of Carlton Hall, which I understand was
demolished in 1959.
I would welcome any help or response.
Thank you
Kenneth Rye
