Dear Residents,
Please find below useful information on Lassa Fever. Kindly share with friends and relatives.
Lassa Fever Update
The current Lassa fever outbreak has now been reported in 15 states across the country, including Rivers and Lagos states.
So far 140 suspected cases with 53 deaths and mortality rate of 37.8 percent have been reported.
However, there is no reason to panic! Lassa fever is endemic in the country with occasional flare-ups recorded since the late 1950s.
It is pertinent that we reiterate the necessary precautions that we need to take as individuals and as a community.
· Promote good personal hygiene and practice frequent hand washing;
· Wash canned drinks and other canned foods before consuming contents;
· Put food away in rodent-proof containers;
· Keep the home clean to discourage rodents from entering homes;
· Promote good community hygiene by ensuring appropriate refuse disposal.
Continue to observe the following preventive measures:
· Avoid contact with rodents, their urine or droppings;
· Discard any food contaminated by rats;
· Do not use rodents as a food source;
· Avoid contact with blood and body fluids, especially of sick persons;
· Use standard infection prevention and control precautions always.
Report any suspected case immediately !!!
Everybody stays Healthy!
Many Thanks,
Sebastine Osita
