Janet,

Your surnames certainly are popular in Kilkenny and Laois. Have you tried searching on

It's the Rothe House listing of BMD as posted by the Irish Family History Foundation. (Laois has not made their records available yet to the IFHF) It's free to search but requires payment for in-depth info. However, by judicious searching you can find quite a lot for free, though it's sometimes trial and error. Should you nail down a parish/district, coupled with a BMD, you are several jumps ahead in the board game called GENEALOGY. Good luck.

Hi Jack,
Yes, I've searched the site pretty thoroughly. With clues someone posted on Jane's other list I was able to narrow down possibilities trying out parents' names etc. in combination with the names of the people who settled in the town (possible siblings, etc.). Played around with that for both surnames and various spellings. I purchased two records that I could almost hope to be correct (one for each), but I also purchased several that were clearly not. (Too expensive to do any more of that kind of gambling.) Found confirmations that I'm pretty sure match one of the other lines, though. Think it's time to sit still and be content with what I have gathered to date. If more is meant to be found it will eventually reveal itself. It is like a board game, isn't it!
  Thanks,
Janet
