Last evening, by an overwhelming vote of 21-0-1, the Carleton
University Students' Association voted to support the efforts of the four
Merchant Marines in their quest to seek recognition and financial
compensation for all Merchant Marines who fought on our behalf in WWII.
These men have travelled from the east coast following a promise
to meet with parliamentry officials. They have subsequently been denied
this meeting and are seeking support from the general public in their
quest for recognition from the government.
CUSA is asking students to show their support for for these men by
attending a rally tomorrow, November 25th, at 11:30am on Parliament Hill.
Students can also show support by signing the petition in the CUSA office,
Room 401 Unicentre.
The motion before Council read as follows:
BIRT CUSA support the actions of the Merchant Marines in their mission to
meet with governmental officials and recieve their due recognition and
compensation.
BIFRT this support take the form of an official letter written by the
appropriate Executive member to be signed by all willing members of Council.
BIFRT CUSA support advertising this mission by way of a petition and
engaging the press.
Please show your support for these men by attending this rally,
signing the petition and even writing to your elected officials so these
men can recieve the recognition they so justly deserve.
