I'm trying to pick a chart plotter. I'm trying to understand how to load charts and how much that will cost. Seems like most of them have wifi and the go-to solution is to load charts from navionics on your phone onto the plotter. Cool, I can do that.
Edit: I may be mistaken, perhaps it is navionics that is selling the cards for the plotters, to support loading their own charts. That makes MORE sense. Still expensive. Is there any free or inexpensive solution here? It seems like raymarine used to have free "lighthouse" charts based on NOAA and then they started charging $150 a year for it. Also, I can't find the renewal cost for navionics chart card subscriptions listed anywhere. They simply say "a reduced cost". How much?
