I've never heard of Rocketfish cable but google search shows that it's just an HDMI cable. Did you switch (your TV remote) to HDMI input channel that corresponds to the correct HDMI input on the TV? Did you try plugging the cable into different HDMI input on the TV? Before it fails, did you change anything such as upgrading iOS, upgrading Netflix app or changing cable etc?

You can also use AirPlay to send the video to an Apple TV through your wireless network, although the Apple TV also has the Netflix app installed. Even then the Apple TV is a good addition to your home theatre for streaming other content off the iPad, iPhones, computer or video rentals for iTunes.

I've got an HDMI cable which normally transmits what I'm seeing on my iPad screen to my TV except when I try and play a Netflix movie I get a message (on the IPad) saying "Cannot Play Video - The connected display is not supported."

Thanks for quick reply. Is it possible my TV is just too old (2011) for this new technology (for e.g. it's not HDCP compliant - whatever that means)? If so, is using a Chromecast likely to produce any different result do you think?

I don't know what TV you're using. I got my LCD TV in 2009, older than yours but it works fine. As long as you have an HDMI input, you can use Chromecast device. Best part of it is the cost. I got mine for about twenty bucks.

II've been streaming Netflix through my iPad for awhile successfully. I have the cable. However now somethings not connecting...get message on tv "no signal". Could this be my settings on my tv remote? I it on component to Netflix. Sorry, not very technical. Any suggestions appreciated.

With everything. plugged in, have you tried doing a hard reset of your iPad by holding down the. Home and sleep buttons simultaneously until the screen turns black and the Apple Logo appears and then let go of the buttons?

yes, I changed tv remote settings to component as the cable has several wires. Always worked before. Now just get "no signal"....it's like there's no connection. Netflix works just fine on my iPad but it doesn't stream to tv.

The adapters for iPads can be unreliable and aren't terribly rugged. I would highly recommend purchasing a Chromecast or better still an AppleTV. If you're getting an HDCP error, that would likely be a bad or old HDMI cable. I would first suggest a new HDMI cable. If the issue still persists it could be your TV.

I'm going to be traveling for a few weeks and I'd like to stream Netflix from my iPad Pro to a hotel TV. I looked into the Lightning Digital AV Adapter but, according to the reviews, video is quite degraded. Therefore I've been considering other options. Since a 3rd generation Apple TV can be had for not much more than the cost of the AV adapter, I was thinking that perhaps I would try AirPlay instead. I'm wondering if others have traveled with Apple TV and whether it's necessary to use wifi with Apple TV. In other words, can I connect my iPad to the hotel wifi and then use AirPlay to stream video to Apple TV, which will be connected to the TV using an HDMI cable? Does anyone have any other creative solutions for streaming video to a hotel TV? Thank you very much for your help.

For Airplay, the Apple TV must be on the same network as the iPad. Wired Ethernet or Wifi, your choice. The streaming between the iPad and the Apple TV is done on the wifi network, NOT between the 2 devices wirelessly.

Also, if you didn't know this, AND I am sure a lot of Netflix users don't, if you go into your Netflix account from a web browser or a web browser on your computer, and log into your Netflix account, you CAN change the streaming quality of Netflix to all of your devices to have it stream to a higher quality.

For better quality the Hotel Wifi in your room would need to be able to handle the extra bandwidth from its Internet servers to handle better quality video at say 8-9 and 10-12 Mbps for HD quality looking video on screen.

We pay for 25 Mbps Wifi streaming service and our local Home Wifi with normal video streaming and other devices on the Internet doing whatever, never exceeds 20-22 Mbps of our paid monthly broadband Internet service.

This setting will still give you a good picture onscreen. You'll only notice the lower quality difference at close visual range. At normal viewing distances the streamed picture should still look fine at the Standard definition setting.

If you stream Netflix from your iPad at Standard definition and you get occasional blocky picture or intermittent stutter or buffering 1-3 times during the length of a full feature movie, leave the Netflix playback quality on Standard.

If you can't get Netflix to stream out of your iPad to the hotel TV at all in High or Standard video definition, you will have no choice, but to try Netflix's Auto or Low streaming settings which may yield a less than ideal picture on the TV.

Using a streaming box like Apple TV and using Airplay won't change those factors if Wifi speeds on the Hotel's Wireless network are at peak use by guests and creates limited WiFi speeds/bandwidth/bottlenecks.

Actually, you can use peer-to-peer AirPlay by turning on Bluetooth on the iOS device. See How to use AirPlay on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. The device locates ATV over Bluetooth and they establish a direct link on channel 149, independent of the network. The ATV may not be happy with no network connection, but it ought to work. The catch for the OP would be if the Netflix app blocks AirPlay. Certainly, the cleanest solution would be a direct HDMI connection.

I have an iPad mini and an Emerson TV that has a USB connection. How do I get Netflix to play on TV after i hook iPad to TV? I am not very technical, and I'm old! I started a movie on Netflix on Ipad and was hoping it would just pop up on TV. Thanks in advance

Others might be more helpful, but I had learned what to do when trying to decide how we would do this. You should be able to connect via an hdmi cable, as I learned I could do through my imac. However, not that interested in finding an hdmi cable long enough. You can also buy Apple tv ($99.00) which we'll probably do. You won't need to connect with wires from your ipad. You plug it in and connect the Apple tv to your tv with a usb cable, so it will sit near your tv. You can also do more with the Apple tv (you tube, etc.) There are other brands I haven't had the time to research thoroughly, but I think we'll go with the Apple tv.

We have streamed Netflix on Caribbean and USA cruises using an Apple Lightning to Digital AV Adapter, an HDMI cord and a Samsung remote. We have a 19 day European cruise scheduled and DH needs to stream! Does anyone have any experience streaming Netflix in Europe with a USA account? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Only warning is to make sure you subscribe and download the software prior to the cruise. Every ship I've been on in the past 12 months have had all VPN sites blocked from browsers but the VPN's work perfect once installed.

You basically you open the VPN app and select a location and then open Netflix. If it still tells you it is blocked try a different city. Sometime if too many people are using the same IP address it is flagged as a VPN connection.

Yes you must first connect to the ships Wifi before enabling VPN. You must have an internet connection to connect to VPN Server. A premium internet package will be required. Even with a premium the connection can be a bit dicey at time.

Jim - does having a travel wireless router like you reported having actually help? I know you said you used it since you were using multiple devices. Being in a suite, we'll have the 2 free premium wi-fi packages.
