Job Description
The Maine Climate Council is an assembly of scientists, industry leaders, bipartisan local and state officials, and engaged citizens working to address the effects of climate change on our state. The Governor’s Office of Policy Innovation and the Future (GOPIF) is coordinating the work of the Maine Climate Council and works collaboratively with other State agencies and key stakeholders on policy issues related to climate and energy.
The state’s 4-year climate action plan, Maine Won’t Wait, was delivered by the Climate Council on December 1, 2020 and aims to Reduce Maine’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Make Maine More Resilient to the Impacts of Climate, Foster Economic Opportunity and Prosperity, and Advance Equity through Maine’s Climate Response. The Climate Council is required by statute to deliver an update to the climate action plan by December 1, 2024.
The Maine Climate Council Intern will support the GOPIF as well as the Climate Council, and its associated working groups and subcommittees, as these groups work to update the climate action plan. This is a part-time, paid position (10-15 hours/week, up to 200 hours), and will run over a 10-to-12-week period between February-May 2024. The position will be hybrid, headquartered in Augusta, ME.

Job Tasks
Support Climate Council and its working groups including scheduling meetings, setting up Zoom meetings and webinars, updating Maine Climate Council webpages and public calendar listings, and note taking.
Support stakeholder engagement.
Conduct climate and energy policy research and writing.
Other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Top candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds and will demonstrate many of the below qualifications:
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a writing sample may be requested.
Policy expertise or experience in climate and energy.
Ability to convene stakeholders, especially state, regional and local leaders.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Pursuing a graduate level degree.
