Full-Time Research Assistant / Laboratory Manager is available in 2024
in the Zhuang Lab, Department of Biological Sciences, University of
Arkansas. Research interests in the Zhuang Lab include understanding
the genetic basis of complex trait variation and novel trait evolution,
involving the genetic architecture of complex diseases, the origination
of genetic novelty and diversity, and the underlying molecular
mechanisms. Employing molecular evolution, quantitative genetics,
genomics, and bioinformatics, the research group conducts studies on
both model organisms, such as fruit flies, and non-model organisms,
such as polar fishes.

Job Description

As a lab manager, the candidate will support the laboratory research
requirements of the lab, including protocol development, equipment
maintenance, supply stock ordering, and basic administrative duties. As
a research assistant, the candidate will conduct fruit fly experiments,
collect and analyze data, and be responsible for maintaining fly
stocks. The candidate will have opportunities to participate in research
seminars; attend conferences; collaborate on publications; and supervise
undergraduate researchers. The position offers excellent benefits and a
friendly working environment. The research assistant will be appointed
for a one-year term, with reappointment possible based on performance
and funding availability.

Minimum Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. in Biology or related fields.

• Experience working in a research lab.

• Demonstrated excellence in organization, attention to detail, and
keeping thorough and up-to-date records.

• Ability to manage several tasks, keeping all on track and organized.

• Basic molecular biology lab skills.

Desirable Qualifications (preferred but not required)

• Experience being a lab manager or research assistant.

• Experience working with fruit fly.

• Experience using R for data analysis.
