Dear Dr. Hostert,

I hope your semester is going well!

Thank you for your past help in sharing our programs!  Your efforts have directly helped us to work with over 300 students that are experiencing disadvantages during our most recent expeditions.

As you may recall, I work with Common Tides, a nonprofit organization providing free marine science education and sail programs for youth that are experiencing disadvantages in order to promote knowledge, protection, and an understanding of the marine environment.

We have greatly appreciated your past help in spreading the word about our programs to your students in the past at University of Maine who are perfect candidates for the leadership opportunities that Common Tides offers. In fact, we had a U Maine student join us during a past expedition and they did a fabulous job with the program!

Would you be willing to help us share again?  This will ensure that we're able to continue to offer this life-changing program this coming summer.

This year year we are offering:

  • Internship Expedition - provides free marine science and sailing programs to local children that are experiencing disadvantages and is open to all genders and majors. Interns, many of whom are college students, volunteer their time, and the position meets internship and service learning requirements.  There are four week and two week options. Here is a flyer that can be shared with students.

Here are a few ways you can help spread the word about Common Tides with your students:

  • Share the flyers (linked above) on campus
  • Tell your students about us, especially if they're in need of summer experiential learning opportunities
  • Share on social media

There is a fee for the interns and participants, which covers their food, stay on the sailboat, training, and makes the program free for the youth that we work with that are experiencing disadvantages.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or want to learn more about the program. Your effort in sharing makes a direct and major difference in a lot of lives.

Thank you for your consideration and help again!

Mike
