Apply Today for the 2024 SHPEP Application Cycle

The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is a FREE, six-week transformative enrichment program for high school and college students interested in the health professions. SHPEP’s goal is to strengthen the academic proficiency and career development of students underrepresented in the health professions, preparing them for successful application to and matriculation at health professions schools. Now, in addition to dentistry and medicine, the program offers opportunities to explore nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy and public health.

Spots at the 12 university sites are competitive, so apply early! View the eligibility requirements and application information to help prepare. Participation in SHPEP may better position students for acceptance into advanced degree programs.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 5, 2024.

When taking a gap year, there are important steps every student should take if they anticipate needing financial aid for dental school and dental hygiene programs or any other graduate degree program following their gap year. Make sure you have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish during this time away from school and plan wisely because a year (or two) can fly by.
