From Lost Tooth to Dental Dreams: A Journey of Transformation

“Coming back home with a bag of ice and ice cream, 7-year-old me never would have imagined the years of treatment and surgeries I would endure from losing one baby tooth,” says predental student Rafa Hossain. “A year later, I found myself at the orthodontist’s office, baffled by tooth #8’s stubborn refusal to come out. Despite undergoing braces and numerous procedures to correct my tooth’s position, sadly, this problem remained unsolved.”

Read more as Ms. Hossain shares what happened next, her personal experiences and the inspirational moment that led her to choose a career path in dentistry.

Student Debt Relief Plan and the CARES Act

On June 30, 2023, the Supreme Court ruled against the Biden administration’s Student Debt Relief Plan, which would have provided $10,000 to $20,000 student loan debt relief for qualified borrowers.

Financing Your Dental Education – Did You Know?

You may have read a lot, seen a lot and heard a lot about paying for dental school, but did you know that if you find out you have borrowed more than you need, you can work with your Financial Aid Office to send money back, and that if you do that within the first 120 days, you are not charged any interest or fees on the amount you are sending back?

Paul Garrard, national student loan expert and ADEA Senior Advisor for Student Financial Services, clues us in on ten financing details you may not have been aware of.

Academic Update: Why Is it Important?

A popular question students ask is how to update their ADEA AADSAS® (ADEA Associated American Dental School Application Service) application? For example, how to add a grade for a class that was initially listed as “Planned/In Progress”? Students should be advised that ADEA AADSAS provides applicants the opportunity to update their coursework during two Academic Update periods, which are usually from mid-August through the end of September and then again in mid-December through the cycle end in early February each year.

The first academic update period for this cycle is scheduled for Aug. 14 – Sept. 29, 2023.

During the Academic Update period, applicants can enter grades earned for courses that were listed in the “Course Planned/In Progress” section of the application and add, delete or modify courses listed in that section. Applicants will receive notification and more detailed instructions about the Academic Update process 30 days prior to its initiation.
