CareerCamp Checkup and planning for the future/2013

Hello all, Please forgive not hearing from me for a while. As some of you may know, I had a health crisis starting last Tuesday (9/25) and ended up having emergency gall bladder surgery on Monday October 1. I am doing well and on the mend, but I think this was effecting my health since as long ago as July 2011. I had been fatigued and feeling unwell otherwise, but it was only when everything came to a head that I realized this. So, this is a checkup message regarding CareerCamp to see where we might be headed in 2013. I don't foresee any events before the end of 2012 except perhaps a Holiday Mixer for each camp somewhere nearby the site of the camp. This might allow us to gear people up for next year's camp while sharing a little holiday cheer. That said, here are some questions and comments I have moving forward: CareerCampLA It looks like we have lost our sponsor and venue for CareerCampLA due to staff movement and retirement. Danielle (?) would you have any update on the situation there? We have had interest from a couple of other venues, but they are further south in the LA Basin than I might like. Perhaps they are better candidates for a CC South Bay or similar event We should reconnect with the Worksource folks at the Van de Kamp Building in Atwater Village to see if that might be an available venue for a Saturday CareerCampLA. There are extra costs involved there for a weekend event, but perhaps we can get the local Councilperson/Supervisor to cover those charges as a sponsor/partner of the event CareerCampSCV Anthony - how are we looking for CareerCampSCV in 2013? Does it continue to be an attractive event for you and the University Center? Are there any comments on how to make it better, items to add, additional programs to include? Do you have a tentative date for the 2013 event? Would you be interested in some form of Holiday Mixer event for past attendees? Perhaps snacks with a few quick speakers and a breakout discussion period? (or just a mixer for everyone to check in with people they may have met at the event) (SMILE) CareerCampSFV Jennifer - any interest/possibility in trying to build up CareerCampSFV for another year? Has anything changed at CCN that might allow us to use that venue again? Should we/could we look into Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch as a venue Does anyone have any information on how their big career event turned out back in July? CareerCamp Denver Mitch - I hope you are feeling settled into the Denver area and all is going well! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to facilitate a Denver event in 2013 CareerCamp for Veterans I still think this could be an interesting, focused event for a CareerCamp. Additionally, I could foresee events for aerospace (maybe we could partner up with SpaceX or one of the other, new, private space companies), manufacturing, etc Danielle - any interest in moving this forward using your connections to the VA? Hello, Douglas/All!

Thankful that you are on the mend and that the health crisis has been managed. Must have been a bit scary! 

I am contemplating a CC-SFV for next year. The earlier part of the year seemed to work better, so depending on finding a venue, I may consider a  March or April date. Don't know if this steps on CC-LA, but I don't think so.

CCN has rented out its facilities to another congregation on Saturdays for the duration, so I believe they are fully off the table. I heard second-hand, that the event at Shepherd was less than successful and a bit disorganized. Apparently they had more attendees than they had actual companies and/or volunteers. I'll reach out to Stewart to get his take, and to see if Shepherd might be open to hosting another event. I didn't really want to go that far west, but I'm still coming up blank for anything closer.

Definitely follow up with the Van de Kamp building. I now have some connected colleagues in the NE LA region, so I'll quiz them on how to get the ear of our local council people.

I'll check in as I have more to report. Glad you're getting back in the swing!
