When you think of scrapbooking, you probably think of cutting and
pasting strips of material and construction paper to create pages in a
large album.  With the rise in digital printing sites, it is now
easier than ever to keep an online scrapbook and avoid all that glue
and mess.  Today's photo editing software makes it convenient to
add backgrounds, borders, and other colorful effects to your pictures
with just the click of a mouse.  Here are a few tips to making
the most of digital online photo printing sites when creating your own
individualized scrapbook.
Of course, you cannot send in scraps of newspaper and some of the
traditional items that are associated with scrapbooking.  Setting
up an online scrapbook requires a bit of a twist in thinking.
Instead of saving the actual item, which can be subject to damage and
deterioration over time, simply take a picture of it and upload that
to your site.  This saves you storage space because you do not
have to carry around oversized items in a scrapbooking album.
You can simply snap a digital photo.  Newspaper clippings,
photos, and other documents can also be scanned in and uploaded.
Many photo printing sites include special effects and
backgrounds.  These can usually be added right onto the image,
but also may be applied to the album page itself.  This lets you
design your own scrapbooking pages without having to pay for any
extras.  With traditional offline scrapbooking, you would
generally have to use construction paper, appliques, or other physical
design features to personalize your pages.  If it did not turn
out the way you imagined in your mind, you would have to spend time re-
doing the page and waiting for the glue to dry again.  There is
also a limitation on the number of times you can change the layout
before there will be too many old layers accumulated on the page.
Digital photo printing sites are not only limited to producing a great
online scrapbook.  Once you have edited all of your photos and
designed your pages, you can usually order the entire thing as a print
version and have it delivered right to your door.  Most of these
photo printing sites offer great low prices on each print, so it is
not as expensive as it may seem.  Many times, this can be cheaper
than buying an expensive photo album to make your own traditional
scrapbook.
Another creative way to combine your scrapbook with the technology
provided by digital photo printing is to make customized gifts from
the items you have saved.  A newspaper clipping from a
grandchild's day of birth can be placed on a t-shirt or mouse pad for
a personalized birthday or holiday present.  Photo calendars can
also be made using a series of pictures from a family event.  The
digital photo printing site can then deliver your gift right to your
family member's home.
